PRIVACY, SECURITY & COOKIE POLICY

SECTION 1 : WHAT DO WE DO WITH YOUR INFORMATION? 

When you complete a purchase from our store, as part of the buying and selling process, we collect the personal information you give us such as your name, address and email address to enable us to fulfil your order. 

Email marketing:
With your permission, we may send you emails about our store, new products and other updates. This is via Mailchimp and a double opt in applies (eg you can opt in during checkout and will then receive an email asking you to confirm you would like to opt in to receive emails from us). SECTION 2 : CONSENT 

HOW DO YOU GET MY CONSENT?
When you provide us with personal information to complete a transaction, place an order, arrange for a delivery or return a purchase, we imply that you consent to our collecting it and using it for that specific reason only (eg sending an order confirmation / fulfilment / refund email / abandoned cart email if there is a change in stock levels ). 

HOW DO I WITHDRAW MY CONSENT?
If after you opt-in for an email newsletter, you change your mind, you may withdraw your consent for us to contact you, for the continued collection, use or disclosure of your information, at anytime, by contacting us at info@theethicalsilkco.com. There is also an unsubscribe option at the bottom of each newsletter we send out.

SECTION 3 : DISCLOSURE
We may disclose your personal information if we are required by law to do so or if you violate our Terms of Service. 

For US & Canadian customers receiving their orders via Fedex, we supply the information needed to Fedex for the sole purpose of fulfilling the delivery of your order and notifying you of it’s delivery updates.

SECTION 4 - HOSTING
Our store is hosted on Squarespace. They provide us with the online e-commerce platform that allows us to sell our products and services to you. A record of your order is stored on Squarespace’s system for this purpose only. You can read Squarespace’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy

SECTION 5 - PAYMENT
When purchasing goods from The Ethical Silk Company, there is the option of checking out using Stripe (default payment option) or Paypal. Both Stripe and Paypal are secure third party payment systems. You do not need to open a Paypal account in order to pay via Paypal but can check out as a 'guest'. Using Stripe & Paypal, The Ethical Silk Company does not have access to customers credit card details. For further information please visit: Stripe’s Privacy Policy and Paypal’s Privacy Policy. For these providers, we recommend that you read their privacy policies so you can understand the manner in which your personal information will be handled by these providers. 

ARE MY DETAILS SAFE?
For your security, we neither store, nor have access to your credit card numbers. When you place an order online with The Ethical Silk Company, your credit card details are in fact being sent to a remote, secure server (Stripe) which then interfaces with the banking system to complete the transaction. Accepted credit cards are Visa, Mastercard & American Express. For further information please visit: Stripe’s Privacy Policy and Paypal’s Privacy Policy. For these providers, we recommend that you read their privacy policies so you can understand the manner in which your personal information will be handled by these providers. 

SECTION 6 - THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
In general, the third-party providers used by us will only be allowed access to information to the extent necessary to allow them to perform the services they provide to us (eg Fedex needs information in order to process a US delivery and email an update). 

Once you leave our store’s website or are redirected to a third-party website or application, you are no longer governed by this Privacy Policy or our website’s Terms of Service.  

SECTION 7 - SECURITY
To protect your personal information, we endeavour to take all reasonable precautions and follow industry best practices to make sure it is not inappropriately lost, misused, accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed. However, we cannot guarantee the security of any data you disclose online. You accept the inherent security risks of providing information and dealing online over the Internet and will not hold us responsible for any breach of security unless this is due to our negligence or wilful default.

SECTION 8 - IP ADDRESSES & COOKIES
The Ethical Silk Company may use the user’s IP address to help diagnose problems with its server, to administer the services and for security purposes.

A cookie is a small file that asks permission to be placed on your computer's hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie helps analyse web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site. Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. The web application can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences. In addition, the website and those of its affiliates and clients may contain advertisements that may contain Cookies. 

Analytics and performance cookies:
Our website host Squarespace uses Analytics and Performance cookies to collect information on our behalf about how visitors interact with our site. Storing these cookies is how Squarespace Analytics data is populated. We use traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps us analyse data about webpage traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to customer needs. We use Google Analytics and only use this information for statistical analysis purposes and then the data is removed from the system (26 months for Google Analytics).
